The control tower at Austin Bergstrom Airport sustained significant damage during last weeks unprecedented rains. As a result, air traffic control is being handled through an alternate tower and flights in and out of Austin have been reduced to less than 50% of normal capacity; the disruption is expected to last through mid-November.
This is impacting both outbound and inbound flights with significant delays and cancellations. Cancellations can occur with short notice and departure / arrival times can change quickly based on air traffic control suddenly lifting or imposing restrictions in air space. Until the tower is restored to full capacity, travelers should check flight status before heading to the airport and plan for unexpected delays.
