American Airlines, the world’s largest carrier, announced a new set of features for its smartphone app, Customer Baggage Notification.
The new functionality will notify passengers of any irregular activity with their bags via the app as well as via a text or e-mail message shortly after landing.
The system supports three types of alerts in cases where a passenger’s luggage is not on the plane when he lands including early baggage arrival in the event that a bag arrived before the passenger; late baggage arrival – mobile baggage order, which asks the passenger to fill out a mobile baggage order form that will help reunite a customer and a bag; and late baggage arrival with a notation to go to the baggage service office for other situations including international travel.
The airline believes that the new system will provide improved customer service.
“Customers get more information quickly and our team members get more time to help those who have complicated baggage claims,” it said in a statement.
